Apprentice Carpenter & Joiner - ACIS Group

What Will the Apprentice Be Doing?

Some of the stuff you'll be doing as one of our great Apprentices:

     Undertaking all types of joinery, wet trade, ground works, roofing, basic plumbing and grounds maintenance duties identified within Acis housing stock and any other properties as instructed.

•     Arrange the provision of materials and plant, either directly or under supervision to attain an efficient, effective and productive return on expenditure.

•     To ensure that the correct materials are available to complete the work at the required quality standard

•     To liaise with tenants and your line manager concerning the timing and progress of work being undertaken.

•     Carrying out work activities in line with current Approved Codes of Practice and in accordance with Building Regulations.

•     To be Customer focused in attitude with regard to service expectations and delivery showing flexibility in working hours as the job demands.

•     Completing further training and qualifications as the job role and changing legislation demands.

•     Empathy with the aims and values of Acis Group and to the provision of high quality services to Acis customers.

•     To provide and maintain a full tool kit to enable all reasonable duties to be undertaken as the post dictates.

•     Responsible for the proper handling, care, security and maintenance of equipment, plant, materials and vehicles.

•     Working in a safe manner in respect of adherence to health and safety Regulations with regard to the safety of yourself, other workers, customers and the general public.

•     Using ladders and step ladders where needed to effect a repair.

•     Working from scaffold access, or hydraulic platforms, as work tasks dictate.

•     Lifting of materials and component part, tool kits, ladders, power tools.

•     Fitting of materials and component parts in confined spaces often in awkward postures.

•     The working conditions can vary and on occasion can include dirty and disagreeable sites. Includes elements of working in all types of weather conditions.

What Training Will the Apprentice Take and What Qualification Will the Apprentice Get at the End?

The Apprentice will work towards their Apprenticeship Standard in Carpentry & Joinery Level 2. The successful candidate will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will provide support and guidance throughout the course. This is a Day Release programme which means you will attend Lincoln/Newark College, 1 day per week, term time only. This will fall within your contracted working hours.

What is the Expected Career Progression After this Apprenticeship?

Permanent position on successful completion of the Apprenticeship.

What looks good to us from an Apprentice wanting to apply :

  • Level 1 in Carpentry and Joinery qualification achieved or in progress

  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in this field

  • The ability to work well with people and learn ‘on the job’

  • You will have a CSCS card (desirable)

  • You are keen to learn, grasping opportunities for new experiences as they arise

  • You have  basic IT skills as you may be required to access outlook email and calendar

GCSEs in English and Maths Grade A*/9 to C/4
