Taking strides: Lincoln College student represents Team GB on international stage

Representing Team GB, Dior Regan was one of the twenty selected to represent the nation and the only GB member competing in Painting and Decorating - a significant achievement for the Lincoln-based Apprentice.

EuroSkills Gdańsk 2023 is the eighth edition of the EuroSkills Competition and is the largest European vocational education and skills excellence event. Dior Regan was amongst six hundred other skilled young professionals across the world to compete in Poland for their various disciplines.

Representing Team GB, Dior was one of the twenty selected to represent the nation and the only GB member competing in Painting and Decorating - a significant achievement for the Lincoln-based Apprentice.

Mark Locking, Principal and CEO of the Lincoln College Group, said: “Lincoln College has a practical approach to learning to meet our Purpose of producing highly skilled individuals who are work ready.

“Dior’s achievements when representing Great Britain in her chosen profession are a testament to the hard work and commitment. She demonstrates daily the great work of the staff team here at Lincoln College. Everyone is so proud of her achievements and the more to come!”

Paul Wilcockson, Painting and Decorating Lecturer at Lincoln College, said: “It has truly been remarkable witnessing Dior’s unstoppable progress - her confidence has grown leaps and bounds whilst she has studied with us. The department is incredibly proud to have an enthused learner thats willing to pull out all the stops competing nationally and internationally.”

Michael Swan, Worldskills UK Training Manager, said: “Dior is progressing well towards possible selection for Worldskills UK Team for Lyon 2024. She is one of the final two competitors for selection that will take place in March 2024.

“She performed to the best of her ability at this stage of her training programme at Euroskills Gdansk in September, achieving 12th position. In total, Dior will receive 60 days of skills based training and additional elite performance training leading up to Worldskills Lyon; this will be a combination of skills, endurance, fitness, and health and wellbeing training to enable Dior to compete at the highest level physically and mentally over a four-day competition.”

"The next training will be at Dundee and Angus College, Warwickshire and Loughborough Universities, and international competitions in other competing countries."

Dior is dedicated and self-motivated to practice and trains in her own time with the help and support of her employer Lindum Group and the Lincoln College lecturing staff. It takes around 10,000 hours of training and practice to perform to the highest standards on the global stage. With Dior’s work ethic, drive and ambition, she is giving herself the best opportunity to represent the United Kingdom in Lyon, France next year.

The prospects for this student and many others at Lincoln College are boundless. Our core purpose as an employer-led organisation strives to provide enriching opportunities to allow student cohorts to excel as we are seeing in Dior’s performance.
