Charis Herrick: "Lincoln College allowed me to see all the different routes that studying fashion can take you down"

Charis now attends the University of the Arts’ (UAL) London College of Fashion (LCF), one of the top universities to study fashion at in the world.

She said:

“I’ve always had a keen interest in fashion, and I never imagined myself doing anything other than creating and designing clothes. Studying this course at Lincoln College allowed me to see all the different routes studying fashion can take you down and how important fashion actually is in this day and age.

“I attended both two-years at sixth form and two-years at College and can honestly say that College wins every time. I’ve always known I wanted to pursue a career in fashion and for me to focus on three subjects at school instead of investing all of my time in fashion wasn’t the best thing for me.

“One thing I admire about the fashion course at Lincoln is the unlimited amount of support you receive when applying to universities or apprenticeships. You have a dedicated time each week to prepare for writing personal statements and creating your portfolio. UAL also holds close connections with the College so they often funded trips to visit the university site and paid for us to go and see exhibitions held in London followed by workshops with tutors.

“At LCF so far I have been able to meet various artists and designers in our design workshops. I have been given insights into the Fashion industry and taken up new skills and techniques specific to my print course. One of the best things about being at LCF is that people travel from all over the world to be here and it’s so interesting to see how people's backgrounds can have such an impact on their style of work.

“When attending College, you become more independent with the way you work, and your time management becomes a priority. This is crucial for when you study at higher education.

“Similarly, you aren’t in attendance every day of the week for College or university. This means you need to make sure you're always using your time effectively.

"I would encourage anyone who has an interest in Fashion to come to Lincoln College and study there, even if you’re unsure on which route to go down."
