Celebrating Apprenticeship Excellence: Gemma Williams Named Greater Lincolnshire Apprentice Champion 2024

Gemma Williams, a Level 3 Business Administrator Apprentice has recently been awarded the Public Services Apprenticeship Champion.

Gemma Williams, a Level 3 Business Administrator Apprentice at Lincoln College working with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, has recently been awarded the Public Services Apprenticeship Champion and the Greater Lincolnshire Apprentice Champion 2024 Overall Winner.

The Greater Lincolnshire Apprenticeship Champion Awards are organised in partnership with the Public Service Compact Group, Lincolnshire County Council, North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council, and the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP). The award winners are selected based on their commitment and excellence in skills development.

Councillor Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Adult Learning at the County Council, said, “Gemma has clearly worked hard in her apprenticeship and has become a valuable asset to her employer. Congratulations to all of our award winners who have shown the benefits of apprenticeships when they’re fully embraced. The apprentices themselves gain great personal development and industry opportunities, and employers can train and shape their employees to meet their needs.

“I’m also grateful to the huge range of training providers we have that support apprenticeships across the board – there are so many great opportunities out there for both school leavers and those already employed but looking to progress their careers.”

Mark Locking, Principal and CEO at the Lincoln College Group, added, “Apprenticeships are a fantastic route for students to integrate into businesses and positively contribute to their careers. We are delighted for Gemma to be recognised for her integrity and hard work throughout her apprenticeship."

Reflecting on her achievement, Lincoln College Apprentice Gemma Williams said, “Traditional education wasn’t the right fit for me - I yearned for practical application alongside theoretical learning, and an apprenticeship offered the ideal combination.

“I’ve developed valuable skills and confidence, particularly in communication, problem-solving, and data analysis. I have been able to spend time with partner organisations to learn about their operations and build my network of contacts.”

The role of a Business Administrator involves developing, implementing, maintaining, and improving administrative services, either by working independently or as part of a team to create efficiency and functionality for a business. This apprenticeship pathway is an ideal steppingstone into further career opportunities, such as management or senior support roles.
