A Lincoln College construction student has successfully passed his driving test, thanks to a new and unique initiative by Lincoln College.

Oscar Lacey, a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Construction and The Built Environment student, has undertaken an industry placement with one of the UK's leading construction groups, Galliford Try, to drive home his newly learnt skills and put them into practice in the workplace.

By undertaking an industry placement, Oscar has been able to benefit from having his driving lessons fully paid for by Lincoln College – a scheme set up by the College to support learners with their future careers.

After passing his recent driving test, Oscar said: “I am very thankful and appreciative of Lincoln College for supporting me throughout my driving lessons and I am thrilled to have passed my test”.

Vikki Thornley, Industry Placement and Work Experience Co-Ordinator at Lincoln College, added: “Oscar is a very motivated young person who has taken the opportunity to drive forward his career by undertaking an industry placement.

“With this opportunity, he has been able to take advantage of one of the benefits of having driving lessons paid for by Lincoln College to support his employment within the construction industry.

“Along with this, he is now using the skills and knowledge that he is learning in the classroom whilst in the workplace. He has a bright future ahead of him.”

Barry Knox, Senior Project Manager at Galliford Try, commented: “There are many things that have impressed me about Oscar - such as his desire to learn, always asking questions and being willing to carry out tasks, and always punctual and smart.

“But the thing that has impressed me most is how he has adapted and grown over the months.”

The free driving lessons scheme is open to all students completing an industry placement relevant to their level two or three courses.

Students must be up-to-date with their logbook, have 95 per cent attendance at college, hold a provisional license, and have already passed their theory test. The initiative covers the cost of all lessons, theory and practical tests. Subject to availability.
