Lincoln College proudly hosted an impactful outreach event in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Homes for Ukraine team from Lincolnshire County Council (LCC).

The event served as a hub of opportunities for Ukrainian citizens - offering diverse local employment and training prospects and is one of the many events organised across the Lincolnshire area with key organisations coming together to provide invaluable assistance and facilitate meaningful in-person connections.

Sean Knight, Assistant Principal at the Lincoln College Group, said: “We are delighted to host such an impactful event for the community. It is great to see organisations come together to offer their support.

“At Lincoln College, we are proud to provide ESOL courses that have gained immense popularity among the Ukrainian community. These courses aim to facilitate their integration into the local environment by enhancing their communication skills.”

Sarah Benton, Homes for Ukraine Operations Manager at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We support the Ukrainians coming into Lincolnshire on the Homes for Ukrainian scheme – we link partnership organisations together to collectively support and help Ukrainians integrate into Lincolnshire.

“This centrally located employability event allows guests to visit their most local area and ask questions. These sessions are useful, especially if there is a problem with technology - it’s always good to have an opportunity to meet face to face – and some guests prefer communicating that way.”

Graham Metcalfe, Partnership Manager for the Department for Work and Pensions, said: “We are an organisation that supports people into work and ensures that they have full welfare entitlement. We have been doing these events around the county over the course of the last 18 months - since the scheme started.

“We work in partnership with the Lincolnshire County Council, including their Homes for Ukraine and Wellbeing teams and Citizens Advisory Services - ensuring people have access to the support services operating in and around the county and in each locality. The event gives an opportunity for people to have face-to-face conversations with the teams and training providers and employers that are recruiting locally.”

James Trafford, District Engagement Manager at Shaw Trust, said: “We support unemployed individuals – helping them overcome barriers, upskilling them and finding sustainable employment. This event provides a great opportunity for attendees to see what programmes we offer and how we can support them in short or long-term employment.”

Thank you to all organisations present at the event, including the LCC Homes for Ukraine Team, LCC Wellbeing Team, City of Lincoln Council, Citizens Advice, DWP, Lincoln College, Lincoln City Foundation, Upbeat Communities, National Careers Service, Lincolnshire Community Foundation, Acts Trust, Abbey Access Training, Connect to Support, and Lincoln Embracing All Nations.
