Biology involves a diverse range of captivating topics, including medical science, genetic engineering, biotechnology, and environmental studies. By exploring these current issues, you will gain valuable insights and a fundamental understanding of pivotal areas within the field.

Biology can be used successfully to support studies in areas such as: Geography, Psychology PE, Chemistry and Sociology. This subject, in combination with other suitable qualifications, will allow entry into employment or a wide range of Higher Education courses and then on to postgraduate study and research work.

Modules underpin the whole of the specification and cover the practical skills that you will develop throughout the course and key biological concepts.

During this course, you’ll study:

  • Development of Practical Skills in Biology

  • Foundations in Biology

  • Exchange and Transport

  • Biodiversity, Evolution and Disease.

  • You’ll need five GCSEs (minimum grade Four/C or above); including Maths and English Language (minimum grade Five or equivalent), Biology (minimum grade Six or equivalent) or Six/Six in Combined Science.

    Assessment: Assessment is by written examination.

    Progression: You could progress to A Level Biology.

    You’ll need general stationery items including a scientific calculator and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus.
